CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Authorities say a Wyoming County woman who wanted drugs held a pharmacy employee hostage during a two-hour-long standoff with police.
Pineville police, Wyoming sheriff's deputies and State Police responded to the scene at Charlie's Pharmacy on Main Street in Pineville just after 2:15 p.m. Wednesday. The initial call was for an armed robbery and brandishing, but turned into an active hostage situation, a Wyoming County emergency dispatcher said.
When troopers arrived they learned Vickie Acord, 40, of Jesse, had gone into the store and taken an employee hostage in the back room. She was demanding prescription pain medication, said Sgt. Michael Baylous, State Police spokesman.
Police entered the store and were able to talk with Acord through the back room door during the standoff. She eventually exited the back room and gave herself up to police, Baylous said.
She was charged with two counts of kidnapping and one count of armed robbery. She was taken to Southern Regional Jail to await arraignment by a Wyoming County magistrate. No injuries were reported. Troopers still are investigating.
