WVU seeks help for fall-prevention study
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- West Virginia University is looking for faith-based groups in three southern West Virginia counties to participate in a physical activity program.
The WVU Department of Orthopaedics is looking for 10 groups in McDowell, Mercer and Wyoming counties for the second phase of a study on reducing falls.
The physical activity program was established to improve balance and reduce falls in older adults using gentle and self-paced exercises. The program can improve quality of life, muscle strength, sleep, flexibility and balance.
The study will eventually enroll 240 men and women in the 16-week exercise class. Participants must be over age 65.
Information will be collected from the participants at the start and finish of the class and after a 16-week follow-up.
