The state Division of Natural Resources will stock 25 streams and nine lakes with more than 32,000 pounds of fish beginning Tuesday.
Stocking will begin Oct. 15 and continue until Oct. 25. A list of lakes and streams to be stocked by date will be available on the DNR's website starting Tuesday.
Fortunately for anglers, only one facility may not be stocked this season because of the government shutdown, despite some of the lakes and streams being on or near federal property.
Only Rock Cliff Lake in Hardy County will not be stocked if the government shutdown doesn't end in the next two weeks.
"If the shutdown stops, we'll be able to stock it," said Curtis Taylor, DNR Wildlife Resources chief.
Taylor said the only access to Rock Cliff Lake is via a road and campground that are currently closed due to the government shutdown.
The only alternative would be for DNR employees to physically carry buckets of fish one-half mile to and from the nearest open point on the road and the lake, an action Taylor said he's not making employees take.
