GLEN JEAN, W.Va. -- Just in time for the weekend, the New River Gorge National River is re-opening after the partial government shutdown.
The scenic attraction is joining Gauley River National Recreation Area and Bluestone National Scenic River in removing "closed" signs that went up on Oct. 1.
This month is the second busiest for visitors, with Bridge Day events Saturday a big draw. Canyon Rim Visitor Center will be open to the public as well.
New River Gorge Superintendent Trish Kicklighter extended thanks to workers who stayed on their jobs during the furlough. Visitors had limited access to the park during the shutdown.
