The University of Charleston TOMS Campus Club hosted a "Socksgiving" event Thursday to collect new socks and towels for local homeless shelters. Students and community members were invited to bring new towels and packages of socks to the event, tie-dye some to keep, and donate the rest to benefit local homeless men and women at the YWCA Sojourner's shelter and Union Mission Crossroads homeless shelter.
Sam Scott, president of the House of Governors, and Tyler Newman a member of the organization, pack the donated towels and socks into a van.
Aspen Echelmeier, 21, a senior from California, dipped her feet into the blue signature color of TOMS to help create a new flag for the chapter. The combination of steps in straight lines helped recreate the internationally recognized TOMS logo. TOMS was founded on the premise that with every pair of shoes someone purchases, a pair of new shoes will be given to a child in need. The club was founded in 2012 by UC students inspired by the TOMS mission.
