CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Two West Virginia high school students are being recognized for their academic accomplishments.
The students are among more than 140 students nationwide that are part of the 49th class of U.S. Presidential Scholars.
The program created in 1964 has honored more than 6,000 of the nation's top-performing students.
It was expanded in 1979 to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the visual, literary and performing arts.
The West Virginia students are: Brett G. Atkinson and Michelle Ma, both of Morgantown.
