CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Education's role in the economy is the focus of a federal tour that's making several stops in West Virginia.
The Appalachian Regional Commission's annual Jobs & Food Systems Tour is scheduled to visit Hampshire County High School in Romney and Tucker County High School in Hambleton on Tuesday. On Wednesday, tour participants will visit Pierpont Community and Technical College in Fairmont.
Federal officials participating in the tour included U.S. Department of Education deputy assistant secretary John White, Appalachian Regional Commission co-chairman Earl F. Gohl and National FFA executive secretary Sherene Donaldson.
The Department of Education says White also will visit Petersburg Elementary School on Monday. The department recently named the school as a Green Ribbon School.
