U. of Charleston considers building townhouses
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - University of Charleston officials are considering building upscale townhouses along the Kanawha River.
President Ed Welch says the university would sell the townhouses but lease the land to the owners.
Welch tells the Charleston Gazette (http://bit.ly/16aS80x) that the project would provide revenue for the university. It also would improve the riverfront property.
University officials originally had proposed building two condominium buildings on the property. But that plan was shelved in 2009 after the economy soured.
Welch says that the stock market has rebounded and there's renewed interest in housing on the property.
