Online applications available for free school meals program
Parents who have not completed an application for the state's Universal Feeding Pilot program can now do so online.
The Universal Feeding Pilot program is designed to provide students with free breakfasts and lunches, as well as reinforce better serving and eating habits within school systems.
Currently seven counties and one school in Kanawha County, the new West Side Elementary, are starting the program in the state. The counties are Clay, Fayette, Gilmer, Lincoln, Mason, McDowell and Mingo.
For the program to be a success, all parents regardless of their income levels must fill out an application so that their respective school system can turn that data in to the federal government and get subsidies for providing the meals free of charge. In addition to being able to pick up applications at schools, parents can now fill the application out online at http://wvschoolmeals.net.
