The University of Charleston, in cooperation with state and local police and the West Virginia Intelligence Fusion Center, is having a planned emergency drill today on the university's main campus in Kanawha City.
The drill will involve a realistic scenario in which an active shooter is reported on campus. The exercise is intended to test and improve the ability of the university and local law enforcement to respond in an emergency.
Students and employees have been notified of the drill and given emergency instructions, but the details of the actual scenario are confidential until it begins.
During the drill, access to the campus will be limited and traffic patterns around the campus could be altered.
Emergency alerts will be posted on the university's website, Twitter feed and Facebook page.
