Nine charged after theft investigation

An "intensive investigation" into recent thefts of motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles in the Elk and Sissonville areas led to the arrest of nine Kanawha County residents, according to a press release from the sheriff's department.

The investigation led to one of the individuals, Roger Lee Burdette, 24, of Sissonville, being arrested on charges of operating a clandestine lab. Tiffany Dawn Shaffer, 23, also of Sissonville, was arrested on the same charges.

Kevin Allen Hudson, 28, of Sissonville was charged with transferring and receiving stolen property.

Others charged include: Steven R. Burdette, 37, of Charleston, two counts of transferring and receiving stolen property; Brandi Rose, 27, of Charleston, grand larceny and being an accessory before the fact; Joshua Snyder, 22, of Charleston, grand larceny and transferring and receiving stolen property; Paula Brown, 27, of Charleston, grand larceny and accessory before the fact; Helen Skeens, 53, of Charleston, simple possession of a controlled substance and Wayne Thaxton, 59, of Charleston, simple possession of a controlled substance.

Deputies fanned out across the Sissonville area serving arrest and search warrants on Tuesday. The investigation led to the recovery of three stolen ATVs and a motor scooter.
