Kanawha County schools were closed this morning because of widespread power outages. Originally, the school system was on a two-hour delay.
In Putnam County, Eastbrook Elementary and Poca Elementary were closed.
Many other school systems were closed, including Lincoln, Boone, Clay and Fayette counties.
Other counties, like Logan and Jackson, were having two-hour delays.
Thousands of West Virginia residents remained without power. Before 7 a.m. today, Appalachian Power listed 29,172 customers out in Kanawha County, 12,743 customers out in Fayette County, 11,431 in Raleigh County, 10,211 in Boone County and 5,133 in Putnam County.
The National Weather Service dropped winter weather warnings for the Charleston area. The forecast for today included rain with a high near 43 degrees.
