Charleston police stand guard at a downed power pole along MacCorkle Avenue in Kanawha City Wednesday night. Dispatchers said an orange truck with a gray trailer struck the pole but drove off before responders arrived. Police stayed on scene for at least an hour and a half, waiting for a power crew to arrive to deal with the live wires attached to the pole. Unfortunately, power crews were busy throughout the region responding to outages caused by the snowstorm. "We've done everything but scream, cuss and throw rocks at them," one dispatcher told officers over the police scanner about trying to get the power company's attention.
