A late-night fire that destroyed a vacant building in Charleston's West Side is currently under investigation.
Firefighters responded to a blaze at 1534 1/2 Red Oak St. just before midnight to find the building fully involved, Charleston Fire Department Capt. Tim Griffith said.
The firefighters began protecting the buildings surrounding the blaze, he said.
None of the surrounding structures were damaged, although the vacant building was almost completely destroyed, Griffith said.
Investigators with the Charleston Fire Department are currently working to determine the cause of the blaze, he said. Griffith was unsure if the utilities to the building, such as gas and electric, had been cut off.
No injuries were reported, Griffith said.
Firefighters had the blaze under control about an hour after arriving on the scene, he said.
