Fire crews respond to electrical problem at health clinic

Emergency crews responded to a fire call from a Cabin Creek Health Systems clinic in Clendenin early Wednesday, a Kanawha County dispatcher said.

The call arrived at 7:38 a.m. and the building was evacuated, she said. The Clendenin Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call at 107 Koontz Ave.

Debra Boyd, chief financial officer for Cabin Creek Health Systems, said the staff at the Clendenin Health Center was preparing to open the office for the day when they detected the scent of smoke. Firemen responded quickly and an electrical problem was contained in a technology closet, she said.

The clinic closed for the day until the cause of the problem could be determined, she said. The clinic is expected to resume regular operating hours on Thursday.
