Accident at Oakwood exit of Interstate 64 affects morning travelers
Workers and first responders spent six hours Wednesday morning on Interstate 64 cleaning up logs that spilled off an overturned logging truck on the Eugene A. Carter Memorial Bridge.
The morning commute for eastbound travelers was a little more difficult as the inbound lanes were backed up from the Oakwood Road exit to the St. Albans exit in Putnam County.
All three eastbound lanes reopened just after 9 a.m.
The truck spilled its load near the Oakwood Road onramp, a Kanawha dispatcher said.
The incident occurred about 3 a.m. and Charleston Police officers remained on the scene until after 9 a.m. They diverted traffic off the interstate at the Oakwood Road exit.
No injuries were reported in the crash, which remains under investigation. Traffic backed up on Interstate 64 as far back as the St. Albans exit in Putnam County, dispatchers said.
