Discussion to focus on the history of Charleston
Billy Joe Peyton will present a talk on the history of Charleston 6 p.m. Tuesday at the archives and history library of the state Culture Center.
The talk is free and open to the public. Peyton's presentation will include words and images and span the city's 225-year history, from the founding of Fort Lee at the mouth of the Elk River in 1788. Peyton has worked as a public historian at WSWP-TV in Beckley and for the National Park Service in Mississippi and West Virginia. He also has taught high school history. In 1992, he joined the faculty of West Virginia State University, where he is an associate professor.
