CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - A private company in South Charleston that owns four nursing and rehabilitation centers has reached an agreement to buy a 184-bed nursing home in Charleston.
Terms of Stonerise Healthcare's purchase of Heartland of Charleston from Toledo, Ohio-based HCR ManorCare weren't disclosed. Stonerise says Heartland will be purchased under the name of Chesterfield Co. LLC.
The transaction requires approval from the West Virginia Health Care Authority.
In 2011, a jury found Heartland of Charleston liable for $90 million in damages following the death of an 87-year old former resident. The case is being appealed before the state Supreme Court.
Stonerise also owns nursing centers in Belmont, Lindside, Morgantown and Parkersburg.
The purchase agreement was announced Thursday.
