"It's a commodity that should come out of the landfill stream," said Board Vice Chairman Rod Watkins.
In other business, the authority discussed the status of its rebranding and website development efforts. Currently, a design firm, Auge+Gray Collective Works is helping redesign the authority's website and develop a logo and brand identity for the authority.
The goal of the rebranding effort is to tie recycling efforts throughout Kanawha County together. Solid Waste Authority Director James Young said the new logo could be used on recycling bins throughout the county, for example, making it easier for the public to identify places to recycle. The rebranding effort will also include new marketing and outreach activities by the Solid Waste Authority.
"There's got to be some sort of communication and engagement," said board member Kasey Russell, who is also on Charleston city council.
The effort will likely be implemented over the next few months.
