CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A security guard was shot at late Wednesday night while guarding mining equipment in a wooded area near East Bank.
Capt. Sean Crosier with the Kanawha Sheriff's Department said the victim, Garfield Stone Jr., of Charleston, was sitting in his truck as he worked for TMK Security when a suspect approached on a utility vehicle and stopped about 50 yards away.
The suspect fired two shots from what was believed to be a shotgun before fleeing into the woods, Crosier said in a news release.Stone also fled the scene and contacted law enforcement. The guard was not injured, but his truck did suffer some damage from the pellets that struck it.
