The opening ceremony for the first annual Upper Kanawha Valley Homecoming Festival will be 5 p.m. Wednesday at Riverside High School.
The festival's purpose is to bring together the communities of the Upper Kanawha Valley to encourage health and wellness and to promote the development of a community health and recreation center.
Local and nationally known bands will perform each evening Thursday through Saturday.
An appearance by Kayla Sloan of Logan, also known as the singing Wal-Mart cashier, will be a highlight on Thursday. She recently appeared at the Grand Ole Opry.The festival also includes carnival rides, a fishing attraction for children and food and craft vendors.
