Photos: The World War II era battleship pays city a visit
The USS LST-325 makes its way up the Kanawha River Thursday afternoon. The World War II era battleship turned lots of heads as it drifted into town on one of several stops. It is the only military museum ship in the United States. n Turn to Page 11A to see more photos of the USS LST-325.
People lined up near Haddad Riverfront Park to get photos of the 328-foot USS LST-325. Some drivers on Kanawha Boulevard even stopped in the street to get a glimpse.
The ships were built in the 1940s to serve in World War II and carry tanks, troops and equipment to European shores. The USS LST-325 can hold 30 Sherman tanks. Its visit is a project of Robert Harris of St. Albans. Harris is a Navy veteran.
