Veterans return to decks of World War II warship
William Barger, 88, of Mingo County, center, stands with his daughter, Kathy Kitts, of Charleston, and Capt. Bob Jornlin of the USS LST-325 Thursday afternoon. Kitts brought Barger to see the ship because he served in the Navy in the South Pacific during World War II.
A scale replica of the USS LST-325, made by Brickmania and put together with Legos, sits on display at Haddad Riverfront Park in Charleston. Brickmania produces custom military toys.
Capt. Bob Jornlin, 74, of Earlville, Ill., stands at the helm of the USS LST-325, a tank landing ship. Jornlin served aboard one of the vessels in the Vietnam War and was among the 60 or so veterans that traveled to Greece in 2000 to repair and bring the landing ship back to the states.
