Man married to two women at same time facing charges
A Charleston man is facing a felony charge after his marriages to two women apparently overlapped, police said.
John Adam Herr, 32, of Teeter Road, was arrested Thursday and charged with felony bigamy, a crime punishable by one to five years in prison if convicted.
Herr allegedly married Kasey Beth Ratliff while still being legally married to Ashley Westerman-Herr, according to a complaint filed in Kanawha Magistrate Court.
According to the Kanawha County marriage record book the marriage between Herr and Westerman-Herr ended in divorce on Nov. 9, 2011, a month after he married Ratliff on Oct. 19, Charleston Detective James Hunt wrote in the complaint. The marriage between Herr and Ratliff was listed on the Monongalia County marriage record book.
The complaint said Herr and Ratliff lived together in Kanawha County from October 2011 until January 2013.
Herr was free on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond Thursday.
