CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Homicides in Kanawha County have had a significant drop, and the county prosecutor credits diligent law enforcement coupled with aggressive prosecution of violent crime.
There have been six homicides this year. Three occurred in February.
Also, in January, Quick resident Lawrence Edward Vaughn, 49, was shot by Kanawha County sheriff's deputies at his home after they responded to a domestic incident.
These numbers are markedly down from last year's total of 19 homicides. And the number has been decreasing. There were 22 in 2009, 23 in 2010 and 19 in 2011.
Kanawha Prosecutor Mark Plants said he's pleased about that.
