CHARLESTON, W.Va. - If you've been looking to spruce up your home, the Warehouse District in Charleston may be worth a visit today.
Five home improvement-oriented businesses across that district will offer discounts and specials today in conjunction with East End Main Street's first ever "Warehouse Wednesday" promotion.
"This is the first time we've done this," East End Main Street Executive Director Ric Cavender said. "Right now, it's strictly a retail promotion."
The point of the promotion is to get customers to businesses in the Warehouse District, in part to show off what the businesses in the area have to offer. Plans call for the event to be repeated on the third Wednesday of every month, with special offers changing each time.
"The goal is to make this district the first place you think of when you have a home improvement need," Cavender said.
Pugh Furniture, Contemporary Galleries, Habitat for Humanity ReStore, Ferguson Enterprises and ESC Carpets & More will all have special sales and promotions throughout the day today. A list of the specials at those businesses can be found on East End Main Street's website.
Cavender said East End Main Street had been looking for a way to increase foot traffic in the Warehouse District for some time. He said visitors to the area will be able to experience the "constant redevelopment" taking place in the East End.
"We've been bouncing ideas back and forth for awhile," he said. "We thought this would be a great first step."
Businesses in the district are looking forward to being showcased by the promotion.
"They're all excited we're focusing back here," Cavender said.
In the future, Warehouse Wednesday could be expanded to include other types of businesses in the district, but East End Main Street plans to keep the event small for now to see how it develops. A Facebook page for the event is also in the works.
"We expect this to grow slowly," Cavender said.
