Community group, legislators to meet up Sunday for guided bike ride

By From staff reports

West Virginia Connecting Communities and the Mountain State Wheelers Bicycle Club will host the first Legislative Bike Ride, which they hope to make an annual event. The group will leave from the Capitol courtyard at 3:30 p.m. Sunday. The group will gather at 3 and will return to the Capitol by 5 p.m.

Several local cycling "experts" will lead a ride of Legislators in a guided bike ride. The experts will discuss the increased number of fatalities with cyclists and pedestrians; how to make cycling and walking safer; how to accommodate the increased number of people walking and biking; and how great biking and walking are for local economies and our health.

The group will travel west on Quarrier Street to Piedmont Elementary -- with a stop to talk to some kids and parents -- and then onto the Boulevard through downtown Charleston. They will return to the Capitol via Virginia Street. For more information, contact Kasey Russell at Russell.kasey@gmail.com or 304-542-1994.
