Charleston mayor recommends former councilman to fill Ward 7 vacancy
Charleston Mayor Danny Jones announced Tuesday that he will recommend Adam Henry Knauff to replace Councilman Mike Stajduhar, who resigned Monday as he is preparing to move out of state.
Knauff represented the 7th Ward on Council from 2007 to 2011.
"Adam Knauff was the youngest member of City Council at that time and did an effective job representing not only the 7th Ward but also the generation of emerging leaders in Charleston," Jones said. "I am pleased that he has agreed to be nominated and to serve if confirmed by City Council."
Knauff decided not to run for re-election in 2011 soon after his first son was born and as he and his wife were expecting their second child. A news release from the mayor's office said that, since his time on council, Knauff has stayed active in Generation Charleston.
If he is selected by City Council to fill the vacancy, he would continue to serve on the three standing committees on which Stajduhar served: Planning, Parks and Recreation, and Urban Renewal.
The mayor's office said Knauff served on those same three committees during his four-year term on council.
