One dead in tractor-trailer wreck; I-64 reopened
INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- A man is dead and another injured after an early Christmas Eve morning tractor-trailer wreck.
John Charles Miller, 65, of Indianapolis, died after his Roadway Corporation tractor-trailer collided with a Dolin Trucking driver at 5:47 a.m. in the westbound lane past the Institute entrance ramp.
Michael Powell of Winfield was merging or had merged onto the interstate when Miller's truck struck him in the back, police said.
Powell sustained minor injuries and was taken to Thomas Memorial Hospital but Miller was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.
The westbound lane of Interstate 64 is shut down and traffic is diverted from the Dunbar exit down Route 25 where people can access the interstate from Goff Mountain Road.
The road reopened about noon Tuesday. The Kanawha County Sheriff's office is investigating.
