Early morning fire destroys Putnam mobile home
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A mobile home in Putnam County was destroyed Monday morning, leaving a family without a home.
The fire broke out just before 6 a.m., in Camelot Park near Eleanor. Firefighters arrived on the scene quickly, but the fire had already ruined the mobile home and the family's van, which was parked nearby, and damaged the siding on a few nearby mobile homes.
Dave Turley, assistant fire chief for the Eleanor Volunteer Fire Department, said firefighters weren't even able to enter the building when they arrived.
"It was too far gone," he said. "There was no floor to stand on."
Three adults were inside when the fire broke out, but were able to get out of the building. One was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, mainly as a precaution, Turley said.
The building was so badly damaged that firefighters weren't able to determine the cause of the fire.
