Winfield Middle School was broken into over the weekend when vandals destroyed computer equipment, sprayed shaving cream, busted a vending machine, and spilled water on the gym floor, Putnam County Sheriff Steve Deweese said.
Someone who saw boys running from the school in the dark just before 1 a.m. Sunday called police.
An officer from the Eleanor Police Department was first to arrive on the scene and was then assisted by Putnam County deputies.
An 18-year-old and two 17-year-olds were apprehended. Timothy Dwayne Basham II, 18, was charged with vandalism and juvenile complaints are being filed against the others, Deweese said.
"They basically entered the school and did a lot of damage and destruction of property," Deweese said.A damaged golf club found on the bleachers was apparently used to damage equipment, he said. Shaving cream was sprayed on desks and walls. A Pepsi machine was broken. Bows were shot in the gym and a floor scrubber was overturned and leaked water on the gym floor.
