Putnam flood victim ID'd as 64-year-old Buffalo man
BUFFALO, W.Va. -- A 64-year-old Putnam County man was clearing debris from a bridge near his Buffalo home when he was carried away by high waters, said Putnam County Sheriff Steve Deweese.
John Wilbur Mobley, of 569 Bear Branch Road in Leon, was clearing debris from a bridge on 18 Mile Creek in a flood prone area, Deweese said. When family members went to check on him, they realized he was missing and called 911 at 6:45 p.m. Monday, Deweese said.
Deputies along with the Buffalo Fire Department responded to the call. Mobley's body was found less than a mile downstream just before 7:30 p.m., Deweese said. An autopsy is being performed to determine whether the cause of death was due to head injury or drowning.
