The church is used for everything from Red Cross blood drives, conferences, and a quilting guild to PipeSounds Organ and West Virginia Symphony concerts. It is also a gathering spot for the Hurricane Volunteer Fire Department Christmas dinner and local school programs as well as weddings, baby showers and private parties.
Forrest Burdette also houses Hurricane Community Cupboard, a combined effort of several area churches to feed the hungry.
So far, a half million dollars has been raised toward the new building project which will cost an estimated $3.2 million, including furnishings.
The money is to be raised through contributions from parishioners as well as fundraising events.
The church offers a traditional and contemporary service each Sunday with a combined attendance of about 500. Additional worship services are held on Sunday and Wednesday evenings as well as small group activities. The lead pastor is the Rev. Dan Hogan.
