A little 4-year-old dachshund mix stole the hearts of Jan Pringle and Dan Robinson, who stopped by the new Putnam Animal Shelter the day before the building's ribbon cutting ceremony.
"Her name is Minnie Robinson," Pringle, of Cross Lanes, said as the dog repeatedly attempted to kiss her. "She's going to have a good home.
"She has a little brother in the back and I hope someone adopts him," Pringle said.
Although Pringle never visited the old shelter, which was tucked away on the other side of the Winfield Bridge, she said she was impressed with the new facility.
"It's a beautiful building," she said. "This place is just great."
Officials moved everything into the new building last Wednesday and opened the doors that Thursday.
Lisa Herdman, office manager, said the shelter has nine cats, a rat, two puppies and several dogs. Some of the animals were moved over from the older facility and some recently were brought in.
The facility, which has a bigger capacity than the old building, can hold 24 puppies and 32 cats.
