A woman is hospitalized in stable condition after being struck by a car while kneeling in a road to check on her dog that had previously been hit by a vehicle, said Sheriff Steve Deweese of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.
The woman was kneeling in the southbound lane of Route 62 in Black Betsy about 6 p.m. Monday when she was hit, Deweese said. She was transported to Charleston Area Medical Center's General Division where she was listed in stable condition on Tuesday, he said.
He said she lived nearby and walked to the area to check on her dog. He did not know if the dog survived.
The incident remains under investigation. No charges had been filed on Tuesday morning.Police have not released the woman's name at this time.
