Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin announced Tuesday he has appointed Mark Matkovich as acting state tax commissioner.
"With his vast knowledge and experience, Mark will be a tremendous asset to the State Tax Department," Tomblin said in a news release.
Matkovich, a lawyer, recently served as general counsel to the secretary of the Department of Revenue. He also has worked as the city attorney for Beckley, staff attorney for the state Senate and general counsel for the Senate majority leader.
Charles Lorensen, current acting tax commissioner and revenue secretary, was recently named Tomblin's chief of staff. Former Chief of Staff Rob Alsop said he would step down in June to pursue a job that let him spend more time with his family.
