Event to give children free dental services
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Capital City Give Kids a Smile event will be held Friday, with free services offered for children and youth ages 2 to 18 who do not have dental health insurance.
Each patient will receive an exam by a dentist, X-rays and a cleaning. Limited restorative treatment may be done if time permits after the exam and cleaning are completed.
The event will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at Ghareeb Dental Group, 1203 Jefferson Road in South Charleston.
The American Dental Association began the Give Kids a Smile program in 2003 as a way of providing dental services for underserved children. Health professionals throughout the country volunteer their time to provide screenings, treatments and education to children. Each year, about 450,000 children benefit from more than 1,500 events.
Locally, the Kanawha Valley Dental Society sponsors the event for Kanawha, Boone, Lincoln, Logan and Putnam counties.
In 2013, 55 children received $15,000 worth of dental services.
No pre-registration is necessary for attending Friday's event. For more information, call 304-881-2155.
