W.Va. to get $9.3M to improve Internet access
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The federal government is providing $9.3 million to West Virginia to improve Internet access at schools and libraries.
Sen. Jay Rockefeller announced the funding from the E-Rate program Thursday.
The West Virginia Democrat says 21 counties will share the funding, along with the state Department of Education and the Regional Education Service Agency.
Rockefeller created the E-Rate program. It's intended to ensure that students can access the Internet, regardless of where they live or their family's income.
Since the program began in 1996, West Virginia has received more than $150 million.
