Walking tour to focus on woodland owners tree farm

By From staff reports

West Virginia Woodland Owners Association will sponsor a woodland owners tree farm walking tour from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the property of Bob Alexander in Mason County.

Alexander will lead the tour and discuss key strategies in maintaining access roads, controlling invasive plants, harvesting timber and planting oak and other tree species.

Participants will also visit wildlife food plots and habitat areas on the property.

The walking tour will cover generally flat ground with a few relatively steep sections, so participants should wear sturdy walking shoes.

Following the walking tour, a lunch will be provided.

The free event is also sponsored by WVU Extension Service/Appalachian Hardwood Center, West Virginia Forestry Association, the W.Va. Tree Farm, and the W.Va. Stewardship Program. For reservations, contact Dan Magill, WVU Appalachian Hardwood Center, at 304-293-9419 or email dmagill@wvu.edu.
