MINERAL WELLS, W.Va. -- The opening of a new bridge on W.Va. Route 14 in Wood County completes a three-phase road project that began in 2001.
The $9.4 million bridge in Mineral Wells is scheduled to open Thursday afternoon.
Division of Highways spokesman Mike Foley tells the Parkersburg News and Sentinel (http://bit.ly/UFKOYxv ) that the first phase was the addition of an overpass at Interstate 77 in Mineral Wells. In the second phase, four lanes were added at Pettyville.
The new bridge eliminates a sharp curve. Foley says the curve wasn't safe because it's in a highly congested area.
