Berkeley County farm wins state conservation award
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- A family-owned farm in Berkeley County is the 2012 West Virginia Conservation Farm of the Year.
B & G Orchards of Martinsburg is the third Eastern Panhandle farm to receive the award in the last five years.
Brothers Greg Butler and Bruce Butler Jr. operate the 403-acre farm. They tell The Journal (http://bit.ly/Vh13bVv ) that their conservation techniques include crop rotation and a smart sprayer that identifies where and where not to spray.
Greg Butler says the conservation practices will enable them to pass the farm down to the next generation.
