Sheep, goat producers gathering for WVU ag event

FRANKLIN, W.Va. -- Sheep and goat producers from around the state are coming together for a daylong event offered by West Virginia University and the West Virginia Shepherd's Federation.

Officials say the Saturday event will be held in Franklin and will feature presentations about ongoing research from faculty, staff and students in WVU's Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design and Extension Service.

Topics will include nutrition, health management and marketing. Attendees also will tour Alleghany Meats in Monterey, Va.

Since its founding in 1998, the West Virginia Small Ruminant Project has sought to help farmers see a greater return to sheep and goat production and to help revitalize the industries.
