BECKLEY, W.Va. -- The University of Charleston at Beckley is slashing room rates at its dorms for the 2013-14 school year.
Regional President Jerry Forster says the $1,800 rate is half this year's cost.
It's one of many strategies to increase the student population.
Forster says students who live on campus are more likely to be involved in campus organizations and events - and less likely to drop out.
Both Hogan Hall and University Hall offer lounges for studying and socializing, laundry facilities, and free cable and wireless internet.
Forster says the school is seeking donations to help offset the loss of revenue.
The University of Charleston is a 125-year-old private, independent college with locations in Beckley and Martinsburg.
Last month, it announced it was freezing undergraduate tuition at its Charleston campus.
