Reward offered for info in W.Va. dead puppies case

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. -- A reward is being offered for information in the dumping of more than 10 dead pit bull puppies outside Bluefield.

The Humane Society says it's offering up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

Tips can be called in to Mercer County Animal Control Officer Tracy Monninger at (304) 487-8364. The Mercer County prosecutor's office is assisting in the investigation.

Monninger says the puppies were discovered over the weekend.

The deaths came less than a week after Bluefield's Board of Directors banned owning new pit bulls inside the city limits. Current owners were given 10 days to register their dogs with the city under the ordinance approved April 23.
