Elkins man to be honored during Vandalia

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Elkins folklorist Gerald Milnes will be honored during the 37th Annual Vandalia Gathering at the Capitol Complex in Charleston.

The Division of Culture and History says Milnes will be given the Vandalia Award during a ceremony set for 7 p.m. Friday at the Culture Center. The award is West Virginia's highest folklife honor.

Milnes has documented West Virginia traditional arts and music for the past 35 years. His works include books, audio recordings and documentaries. He also was a music consultant for the PBS documentary series "The Appalachians" and contributed music for the movie "Matewan."
