WHEELING, W.Va. (AP) - Banners will be on display throughout Wheeling as part of the city's celebration of West Virginia's 150th anniversary.
Wheeling marketing and community relations director Allison O'Konski says most of the 22 banners feature the work of local artists.
O'Konski tells The Intelligencer and Wheeling News-Register (http://bit.ly/14aNtdJO ) that the banners will be rotated throughout the summer.
The largest banner is a reproduction of Mark Missman's painting "The Second Wheeling Convention". During the convention, representatives of Virginia's western counties declared independence from Virginia on June 20, 1861. West Virginia officially became a state on June 20, 1863.
