MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- West Virginia Transportation Secretary Paul Mattox wants to see an accident-plagued construction zone on Interstate 81 for himself.
Motorists were stranded on the interstate's northbound lanes in Berkeley County for several hours Thursday afternoon due to a tractor-trailer accident just before the construction zone merges traffic from three to two lanes.
Mattox planned to meet with construction project workers and tour the site on Friday. He had been alerted by Democratic state Sen. John Unger of Berkeley County about Thursday's traffic tie-up.
The Journal (http://bit.ly/12pFdHR) reports several accidents have occurred in the construction zone, where work is scheduled to be finished by August.
