WHEELING, W.Va. -- Skeletal remains found in West Virginia's Northern Panhandle have been identified.
Police say the body is that of 50-year-old Florida resident David Bazo, and they're treating his death as a homicide. But Ohio County Sheriff Pat Butler won't say how Bazo died.
Butler says Bazo was an Ohio Valley native who had been in living in Bradenton and Sarasota, Fla., before he disappeared.
Media outlets say relatives had reported Bazo missing, but his name was never entered into a missing-persons database.
Bazo was a divorced father of one.
He was last seen in Ohio County in August 2011. He'd apparently returned to the area to visit relatives in Wheeling.
Hikers found Bazo's remains near an abandoned farmhouse in April.
They were sent to anthropologists at the Smithsonian Institution last week.
