LEWISBURG, W.Va. -- If you think you might be the strongest man or woman in West Virginia, you'll have a chance to prove it next month.
The "West Virginia's Strongest Mountaineer" competition is scheduled for Aug. 9 at the State Fair. Events include the truck pull, deadlift, log clean and press, farmer's handles, and Atlas stones. Competitors will be divided into weight divisions, and the weigh-in will be held the day of the competition and the day before. First-place winners in the men's and women's open divisions will qualify for a national contest.
Entry fee is $55, or $75 after Friday. Competitors can register at nastrongman.com.
The State Fair says Phil Pfister of Charleston, who won the World's Strongest Man contest in 2006, will attend the event.
