WEIRTON, W.Va. (AP) - Weirton has established a no smoking policy in its municipal parks and grounds.
The Weirton Board of Parks and Recreation established the smoke-free policy at its July meeting, citing the health risks associated with secondhand smoke, especially on children.
Recreation Director Terry Weigel tells The Weirton Daily Times (http://bit.ly/1cbV8hr) the policy stems from the park board's belief that it has a responsibility to look after the safety and well-being of all patrons who visit its attractions.
He said that extends to the litter often associated with smoking.
New no smoking signs soon will be posted at city parks.
